Macquarie Wagyu has 200 fullblood black Japanese Wagyu cows. Most of these cows are a mix of various strains of Wagyu. However, Macquarie Wagyu has retained pure strain herds in order to selectively join progeny from these cows.

Expansion of the full blood herd is ongoing with continuous embryo transfer programs being undertaken on elite cows. These cows are selected for the program on conformation, performance and carcass feedback.

Macquarie Wagyu’s base herd has strong influences from Takeda Farm genetics. Other genetics external from Takeda Farm have been selectively joined to these base cows.

Bulls that have had a strong influence on the herd include: Itoshigefuji, Kikuterushige, Kikuyasu 400, Terutani, Itoshigenami, Haruki II, Kitateruyasudoi, Hirashigetayasu, Michifuku and Itohana II.

Embryos are implanted into composite bred heifers specifically bred by Macquarie Downs.

All fullblood calves are individually identified within 24 hours. Upon weaning, hair samples are taken for DNA analysis and parent verification. This information is recorded at registration. These calves’ performance is continually recorded, monitored and evaluated during the course of ownership.

A full list of Macquarie Wagyu’s livestock can be viewed on entering the herd tattoo of BDW on the Australian Wagyu Association’s website. All females are registered and are issued certificates upon DNA verification.
